: Body of Message:

: Need information related to the Special Education field. I have been in golf management for several years but for the last 3 years focused solely on teaching. Have found a growing interest in the Spec. Ed. field, specifically for several reasons:

: 1. Like the idea of testing individuals to assess their needs.
: 2. Like the idea of designing cirriculum for each individual student and family.
: 3. Intrigued by the idea of long term development (3 or more years) with each student versus only one year association.
: 4. Intrigued by how each person learns utilizing environments, learning cues, love languages, etc...
: 5. Interested in how to utilize outside services and specialists to help each child attain their goals.
: 6. Concern and compassion for all the different possible reasons why children would even be considered in the category of mild to moderate
: 7. See a difference between the attitudes of the regular classroom teacher and the Spec. Education teacher.
: 8. Fascinated by the fact that the possibility of the next Einstien exists. From what I understand he was classified as a learning disorder student and someone figured out his learning path.
: 9. I understand Special Education Teachers and in particular Men are in high demand.
: 10. I have a B.A. background in Business, been teaching golf to all levels for over 12 years, just took the CBEST, will take the MSAT in April, trying to get into a credential program and masters program for teaching with an emphasis on Spec. Ed. mild to moderate, my goal is to start some substuting doing any kind of teaching and/or try to get an emergency credential at school here in Riverside County, work under someone and work into the field,
: 11. My question is with this infor. above what do I need research, what questions do I need to answer, what do I need to do to know if this is the correct direction for my teaching career, what resouces on the net would you look into and who should I talk to on the net to get a clearer picture of the Spec. Ed. field and all that it has to offer, and what would you do?

The best test to see if you want to go into special education is start volunteering in a classroom or work as an aide in a classroom. The more "hands-on" experience you get, the more you will know if this is for you or not. Also you will be networked into knowing the best way for you to get your certification.
